Intimate Portraits for Women - First New York Shoot
Friday, July 18, 2008

Elizabeth Hill is a Managing Director of Financial Assurance Inc. in New York, a leading financial guaranty company located across the street from the Museum of Modern Art..

When I was in consultation with Elizabeth Hill, regarding the style of wall portrait she wanted, she requested something unusual. Elizabeth said to me. "I would like to have a portrait in which I am receiving a blessing." I told her I could do that. From my yards and yards of luxurious fabrics, I fashioned her dress, selected appropriate earrings, made a delicate head dress and placed a silk shawl around her to fit with the rather Renaissance portrait look I would attempt. Elizabeth then demonstrated the style of hand position whe wanted to depict receiving a blessing. I fine tuned her lighting and pose and then shot for expression. At the end of the shoot, I made a selection of her images for her to view. We both agreed on the image which would form the basis for her portrait. All of this took place the day before I returned to Poulsbo, Washington. In my Washington State studio, I replaced the background from a collection of images I maintain and then took the image into Corel Painter to digitally paint it, which included painting in the sheer white sleeves. It will be printed on canvas, varnished, and beautifully framed to form a treasured piece of personal art in Elizabeth's home - forever.
